| I takes only 10 minutes to drive from us to the parking of Hengifoss. The waterfall is the secon highest in Iceland and is according to new measurements 128 meters. It is considered very beautiful because of thin, red layers of clay between the basaltic lavas. The river is draws its name of the waterfall, Hengifossa and it also possesses another waterfall, lower than Hengifoss, called Litlanesfoss. Also a unique waterfall surrounded with long and regular basaltic pillars. The hike up to the waterfall is worthwhile even though it is upwards. Behind Hengifoss is a cave that can be inspected if the water level is low. |
